What is an MSSP?
An MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) is a vendor that operates security tools and processes on the customer's behalf, typically including some combination of firewall management, vulnerability management, SIEM operation, and security monitoring.

MSSPs have existed since the early 2000s and predate the MDR category. The distinction is that MSSPs are broader in scope (firewall, AV, compliance, monitoring) and MDR is narrower and more outcome-focused (detection and response specifically). Some MSSPs add MDR services; some MDR providers add MSSP services. The categories overlap in practice.
How Command Zero handles MSSP.
Some MSSPs use Command Zero internally to provide AI-driven investigation to their customers without operating the platform per-tenant. Some Command Zero customers use an MSSP for night-shift coverage with the MSSP using the customer's Command Zero instance. The platform is multi-tenant capable and supports MSSP workflows. The customer-of-record decides who operates the platform.
